Kolkata Knight Riders started IPL 2008 tournament on a good note, winning the first as well as the second match. However, it lost the next four matches, won three and lost the next three. After rain washed out its match against Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders was out of the semi-finals. With poor performance through the first three years of the tournament. The team's performance, however, improved from the fourth season as it qualified for the IPL playoffs and made it to the Champions League Twenty20. They eventually became the IPL champions for the first time in 2012 in fifth edition of IPL and repeats same in 2014.
It was a steal for KKR when they got a hard-hitting batsman like Colin Munro for his base price while they didn't have to spend too much to get hold of the West Indian skipper Holder. Having already retained the bulk of their squad, KKR concentrated on adding strength to their bench.
The official theme of the team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re (We will do, We will Fight, We will Win) and the official colors are purple and gold.
